La autora inglesa Jane Austen (1775-1817) es una de las voces más reconocidas de la literatura de habla inglesa, y quizás de la literatura universal. Sus obras fueron consideradas adelantadas a su tiempo por la forma de abordar temas como la percepción del rol de la mujer en la Inglaterra de transición entre los siglos XVIII y XIX, el matrimonio como instrumento de control social y el hermetismo y sectarismo de la alta sociedad inglesa.Siempre con una saludable dosis de humor e ironía, Austen escribió sobre temas complejos sin perder nunca de vista el entretenimiento que una historia interesante le podía brindar a sus lectores.Este volumen recoge sus novelas completadas en vida: «Sentido y Sensibilidad» (1811), «Orgullo y Prejuicio» (1813), «Mansfield Park» (1814), «Emma» (1815), «La Abadía de Northanger» (1818), «Persuasión» (1818) y «Lady Susan» (1871), aunque estas tres últimas fueron publicadas de manera póstuma, gracias a la creciente fama de la autora después de su temprana muerte.
