Jemina, The Mountain Girl – one of the stories, which entered in a collection of eleven short stories by F. Scott Fitzgerald «Tales of the Jazz Age» (1922). In the story of «Jemina, The Mountain Girl», Jemina Tantrum is a teenage girl who lives on a mountain. She takes care of her 'pappy' and 'mappy' and basically runs the family business. Thing is, there's a feud between her family and the family who lives across the stream. A long time ago, one of Jemina's ancestors and one of the Doldrum's (the family across the stream) ancestors fought over a card game. Their families have hated each other ever since. Anyways, one day a stranger came to the Tantrum's house to attempt to buy it. Gold was found on their property and the stranger wanted to buy it… Just a few of the themes found in «Jemina» are ignorance, nature, the power of tradition, and of course, love. Famous works of the author F. S. Fitzgerald: «This Side of Paradise», «The Beautiful and Damned», «The Great Gatsby», «Tender Is the Night», «The Last Tycoon», «The Diamond as Big as the Ritz», «May Day», «The Rich Boy», «The Curious Case of Benjamin Button», «The Offshore Pirate», «The Ice Palace», «Head and Shoulders», «The Cut-Glass Bowl», «Bernice Bobs Her Hair», «Benediction», «Tales of the Jazz Age».

May Day – one of the stories, which entered in a collection of eleven short stories by F. Scott Fitzgerald «Tales of the Jazz Age» (1922). Published as a novelette in The Smart Set in July, 1920, «May Day» relates a series of events which took place in the spring of the previous year, during the «general hysteria» which inaugurated the Jazz Age. The story uses the May Day Riots of 1919 as historical backdrop. During these events, as the lower-class is fighting for certain causes, a group of privileged Yale alumni meet for a dance. The story is noteworthy for its length, the familiar themes of lost youth and wealth as well as two distinct yet interrelated plots. All were aspects Fitzgerald would revisit throughout his literary career. Fitzgerald described the story as illustrating a «general hysteria…that inaugurated the Jazz Age…» During the story a Jewish man is beat up by a crowd as he expounds socialist rhetoric. Fitzgerald, however, was not an anti-semite, and his characterizing of the Jewish man can be seen as a commentary of the brutality of the crowd contrasted with the man's wit and fervor.

Tales of the Jazz Age (1922) is a collection of eleven short stories by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Divided into three separate parts, according to subject matter, it includes one of his better-known short stories, «The Curious Case of Benjamin Button». All of the stories had been published earlier, independently, in either Metropolitan Magazine (New York), Saturday Evening Post, Smart Set, Collier's, Chicago Sunday Tribune, or Vanity Fair. All of these stories, like his best novels, meld Fitzgerald's fascination with wealth with an awareness of a larger world, creating a subtle social critique. With his discerning eye, Fitzgerald elucidates the interactions of the young people of post-World War I America who, cut off from traditions, sought their place in the modern world amid the general hysteria of the period that inaugurated the age of jazz. Mrs. Amworth by E. F. Benson, The village of Maxley, where, last summer and autumn, these strange events took place, lies on a heathery and pine-clad upland of Sussex. In all England you could not find a sweeter and saner situation. Should the wind blow from the south, it comes laden with the spices of the sea; to the east high downs protect it from the inclemencies of March; and from the west and north the breezes which reach it travel over miles of aromatic forest and heather… Among the most significant works Edward Frederic Benson: And the dead Spoke…, The Outcast, Machon, Negotium Perambulans…, At the Farmhouse, Inscrutable Decrees, The Gardener, Mr Tilly's Seance, Mrs Amworth, In the Tube, Roderick's Story, The Horror Horn, The Mapp and Lucia, The Inheritor, Secret Lives, Naboth's Vineyard, At the Farmhouse, The Wishing-Well, The Terror by Night, The Thing in the Hall, The Cat, The Sanctuary.

In his own day it was his ghost stories which were his most popular works. "The Sanctuary", a story of Satanism. «There was a thump on the ceiling overhead as if someone had fallen, and without a word we ran upstairs into Francis's bedroom. The door of the wardrobe where the vestments were kept was open, some lay on the floor. The panel was open, too, but within it was dark. In terror at what might meet our eyes, I felt for the switch and turned the light on…» Among the most significant works Edward Benson: And the dead Spoke…, The Outcast, Machon, Negotium Perambulans…, Inscrutable Decrees, The Gardener, Mr Tilly's Seance, Mrs Amworth, In the Tube, Roderick's Story, The Horror Horn, Mapp and Lucia series, Dodo series, The Inheritor, Secret Lives, Naboth's Vineyard, At the Farmhouse, The Wishing Well, The Terror by Night, The Thing in the Hall, The Cat, The Sanctuary and many more.

"Naboth's Vineyard" exemplifies E. F. Benson's fine literary style and his ability to create the most frightening of supernatural and macabre tales. This story takes it title from a story in the Old Testament Book of Kings starring Ahab and his infamous wife Jezebel. Ahab wants Naboth’s vineyard and Naboth refuses to sell. The update is not about a vineyard, but a home. The Ahab here is a wily lawyer named Ralph and a client whom he failed to protect from charges of embezzlement. Ralph desperately wants the house and uses his knowledge of the other man to press the matter; a circumstance which almost immediately results in the other man’s death by heart attack. The second half of the story is the delivery of a little Old Testament-style ironic retributive justice from the afterlife proving that revenge really is a dish best served when your corpse is cold.
