El llibre recull la part escrita en català dels documents existents en un manuscrit miscel·lani de la Biblioteca d'El Escorial, datat al segle XV. El contingut és divers però tots els documents són de tipus historicista sobre els regnes i la dinastia de la Corona d'Aragó des dels temps carolingis fins als temps d'Alfons el Magnànim, en què pren més la forma de dietari sobre la ciutat i regne de València, en alguns moments amb força detall. D'origen discutit, segons Joan Iborra foren reunits per Martí Viciana el Vell, avi del cronista Martí de Viciana, probablement amb la intenció de disposar de la informació per ser utilitzada posteriorment ja que, en la majoria dels casos, són fragments d'altres obres que l'editor identifica en les notes crítiques.

Las reflexiones presentadas en aquellas jornadas, se recogen en esta publicación. Desde un enfoque multidisciplinario tratan de esclarecer algunas de las cuestiones generales e institucionales que explican el funcionamiento de la Unión.
