The 40 days of Lent give Christians time to prepare for Easter—to look closely at the ministry of Jesus and at their own lives, incorporate a daily observance in their lives, and ultimately grow closer to Christ, with a fuller understanding of the meaning of the Crucifixion and the Resurrection.
Through more than 45 daily readings and prayers, Derek Maul invites readers to join him on a devotional pilgrimage through Lent, using the Gospel of John's rich narrative in chapters 12 through 20 but sampling from other scripture passages as well.
*Reaching Toward Easter** can be used by individuals or groups who wish to make the Lenten pilgrimage together. A group study guide is included in the book.
Maul challenges readers to journey with him from Ash Wednesday through Resurrection Sunday. Along the way they will discover the focused opportunity Lent provides to sit at table with Jesus like the disciples; to walk the dusty path from Bethany to the very gates of Jerusalem, observing the Master; and to listen closely to Christ's words of grace, hope, and challenge.

Here is the book that converted C. S. Lewis from atheism to Christianity. This history of mankind, Christ, and Christianity is to some extent a conscious rebuttal of H. G. Wells' Outline of History, which embraced both the evolutionary origins of humanity and the mortal humanity of Jesus. Whereas Orthodoxy detailed Chesterton's own spiritual journey, this book illustrates the spiritual journey of humanity, or at least of Western civilization. A book for both mind and spirit.

God has spoken to us in the Scriptures in divers portions and in divers manners; but the voice is ever the same, it is always the Word of the same God. Hence the importance of treating the Bible as a whole, and receiving the witness it gives in its various portions, concerning certain definite truths. It is thus we learn to recognize the place these truths actually occupy in Revelation, or rather in the Heart of God. Thus, too, we begin to discover what the foundation truths of the Bible are, which above others demand attention. Standing as they do, so prominently, in each new departure in God's revelation; remaining unchanged when the Dispensation changes, they carry a divine intimation of their importance.

My first thought of writing out this little book of brief selections sprang from the desire to assist a dear friend to enjoy the Author's helpful books. Many times these Beautiful Thoughts" have enlightened my darkness, and I send them forth with a hope and prayer that they may find echo in other hearts." Here are 365 quotes from Henry Drummond designed to give inspiration each and every day of the year.

The Book of Enoch is the most notable extant apocalyptic work outside the canonical Scriptures. It describes the fall of the Watchers, the angels who fathered the Nephilim (cf. the bene Elohim, Genesis 6:1-2). The fallen angels went to Enoch to intercede on their behalf with God after he declared to them their doom. The remainder of the book describes Enoch's visit to Heaven in the form of a vision, and his revelations.
