The editor and publisher of these volumes, which include not less than several hundred biographies spread across the six books, presents them confidently as a verified and authoritative history of the county – the result of conscientious labor in original research , and of information imparted by pioneers and their descendants , entered upon originally as a pastime and without thought of publication of the collated material. It essays to present county and city historical data that had lasting bearing on the times, but which with many of the picturesque incidents were ignored or overlooked in the publications that have gone before; and lastly it is an endeavor also to fill in the hiatus of the years from 1882 through the first World War, to bring to date the tale of the development and growth of a county which, from a small beginning with a rough and uncouth mining population and hardy pioneers, has become one of the richest, politically best governed and industrially typical of a great state. Incredible as their development and growth have been, through successive industrial epochs, the mind cannot grasp the future of State and County, now that the twin Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys have reached the zenith of development and production. Today Fresno County is a leading contributor to California's greater riches, enhanced production, and to the unmeasured happiness and prosperity of its citizens. Fresno is one of the state's centers. In einem Krankenhaus mit vielen todkranken Patienten sucht Coelestina den Tod, findet aber schließlich die Liebe …Rudolf Georg Binding, meist Rudolf G. Binding (1867–1938), war ein deutscher Schriftsteller. Rudolf Binding wurde als Sohn wohlhabender Eltern in Basel geboren; nach Zwischenstationen in Freiburg im Breisgau und Straßburg siedelte Binding 1873 mit seiner Familie nach Leipzig über, wo er wohlbehütet aufwuchs. Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg lebte er bis 1935 in Buchschlag bei Frankfurt am Main, danach bis zu seinem Tod in Starnberg. Binding studierte Rechtswissenschaften und Medizin in Tübingen, Heidelberg und Berlin. Im Ersten Weltkrieg wurde er Rittmeister und dann Stabsoffizier.Nach dem Krieg veröffentlichte Binding als freier Schriftsteller seine ersten Werke, die in erster Linie aus Kurzgeschichten, Novellen, autobiografischen Erzählungen und Legenden bestanden. Zu seinen bekanntesten Werken gehören die Autobiografie «Erlebtes Leben», die wie viele seiner Werke stark von seinen Kriegserlebnissen geprägt ist, sowie die Novelle «Moselfahrt aus Liebeskummer» und die philosophischen Dialoge «Die Spiegelgespräche», beide 1932 entstanden. Seine Werke waren in der Zeit der Weimarer Republik und auch in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus populär und angesehen. Für das NS-Regime war Binding, der einer elitären und großbürgerlichen Autorenschicht angehörte, ein wichtiges Propagandainstrument. Binding selbst, im Grunde ein unpolitischer Autor, ließ sich als Aushängeschild einsetzen, obwohl er Vorbehalte gegenüber dem nationalsozialistischen «Radaupöbel» hegte. Der Schweizer Publizist Armin Mohler zählt Binding zu den Autoren der sogenannten Konservativen Revolution. Am 4. August 1938 starb Binding im Alter von 70 Jahren in Starnberg an Tuberkulose.-

Mit dem Kriminalroman «Zerfetzte Segel» hatte sie 1951 ihren ersten großen Erfolg. Von da an entwickelte sich Marie Louise Fischer zu einer überaus erfolgreichen Unterhaltungs- und Jugendschriftstellerin. Ihre über 100 Romane und Krimis und ihre mehr als 50 Kinder- und Jugendbücher wurden in 23 Sprachen übersetzt und erreichten allein in Deutschland eine Gesamtauflage von über 70 Millionen Exemplaren. 82-jährig verstarb die beliebte Schriftstellerin am 2. April 2005 in Prien am Chiemsee.-
