Die junge Elisabeth Reuter ist ohne Mutter aufgewachsen – ihr Vater ist ihr ein und alles. Nach ihrem Studium arbeitete sie als Lektorin bei der Prag-Film. Da sie die Goldene Stadt nicht rechtzeitig verlassen konnte, wurde sie 1945 interniert und musste über eineinhalb Jahre Zwangsarbeit leisten. Mit dem Kriminalroman «Zerfetzte Segel» hatte sie 1951 ihren ersten großen Erfolg. Von da an entwickelte sich Marie Louise Fischer zu einer überaus erfolgreichen Unterhaltungs- und Jugendschriftstellerin. Ihre über 100 Romane und Krimis und ihre mehr als 50 Kinder- und Jugendbücher wurden in 23 Sprachen übersetzt und erreichten allein in Deutschland eine Gesamtauflage von über 70 Millionen Exemplaren. 82-jährig verstarb die beliebte Schriftstellerin am 2. April 2005 in Prien am Chiemsee.-

Nach der Überwindung der nationalsozialistischen Diktatur nahm der Innsbrucker Publizist Ludwig von Ficker im August 1946 seine aktive Tätigkeit mit der Veröffentlichung der XVI. Nummer seiner Kunst- und Kulturzeitschrift «Der Brenner» wieder auf. Ficker stellt ein paradigmatisches Beispiel für eine Generation von Kulturvermittler*innen dar, die nach 1945 einen Neuanfang wagten, die beständig am Wiederaufbau von (brieflichen) Netzwerken arbeiteten und deren transnationale bzw. transkulturelle Verbindungen in der Nachkriegszeit von deutlicher Wirkkraft waren.
Die Beiträge dieses Bandes untersuchen, jeweils von einer Vermittlerpersönlichkeit ausgehend, die komplexen kulturpolitischen Prozesse, die die Zeit nach dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs bestimmt haben, und kontextualisieren gleichzeitig die Verdienste des «Brenner»-Herausgebers auf dem kulturellen, politischen und sozialen Feld dieses Zeithorizonts. Es wird dabei evident, dass die vielfältigen Tätigkeiten der Literatur- und Kulturvermittler*innen ihren Niederschlag in permanenten Selektions-, Produktions- und Rezeptionsprozessen gefunden haben, wobei ein wesentliches Spannungsfeld im Nebeneinander von restaurativen und progressiven Kräften auszumachen ist. Ein Blick auf die Literaturvermittler*innen illustriert deshalb insbesondere auch die Machtverhältnisse und ideologischen Grabenkämpfe, die nach 1945 Literaturvermittlung und Kulturtransfer dominiert haben. In der Synopse werden die Vielfalt, die Dynamik und die Komplexität, aber auch die Kontingenz der diskursiven Praktiken dieses Zeithorizonts sichtbar.
