This new 2020 edition by Wisehouse Classics conatins the complete fiction fo H. P Lovecraft*. Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890–1937) was an American writer of weird fiction and horror fiction, who is known for his creation of what became the Cthulhu Mythos. He was born into affluence, which ended with the death of his grandfather. In 1913, he wrote a critical letter to a pulp magazine that ultimately led to his involvement in pulp fiction. During the interwar period, he wrote and published stories that focused on his interpretation of humanity's place in the universe. In his view, humanity was an unimportant part of an uncaring cosmos that could be swept away at any moment. These stories also included fantastic elements that represented the perceived fragility of anthropocentrism. Throughout his adult life, Lovecraft was never able to support himself from earnings as an author and editor. he died in poverty at the age of 46, but is now regarded as one of the most significant 20th-century authors of supernatural horror fiction CONTENTS: A Reminiscence of Dr. Samuel Johnson At the Mountains of Madness Azathoth Beyond the Wall of Sleep Celephaïs Cool Air Dagon Discarded Draft of «The Shadow Over Innsmouth» Ex Oblivione Facts Concerning the Late Arthur Jermyn and His Family From Beyond He Herbert West-Reanimator Hypnos Ibid In the Vault Memory Nyarlathotep Old Bugs Pickman’s Model Polaris Sweet Ermengarde, or, The Heart of a Country Girl The Alchemist The Beast in the Cave The Book The Call of Cthulhu The Case of Charles Dexter Ward The Cats of Ulthar The Colour Out of Space The Descendant The Doom That Came to Sarnath The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath The Dreams in the Witch House The Dunwich Horror The Evil Clergyman The Festival The Haunter of the Dark A Reminiscence of Dr. Samuel Johnson At the Mountains of Madness Azathoth Beyond the Wall of Sleep Celephaïs Cool Air Dagon Discarded Draft of “The Shadow Over Innsmouth” Ex Oblivione Facts Concerning the Late Arthur Jermyn and His Family From Beyond He Herbert West—Reanimator Hypnos Ibid In the Vault Memory Nyarlathotep Old Bugs Pickman’s Model Polaris Sweet Ermengarde The Alchemist The Beast in the Cave The Book The Call of Cthulhu The Case of Charles Dexter Ward The Cats of Ulthar The Colour Out of Space The Descendant The Doom that Came to Sarnath The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath The Dreams in the Witch House The Dunwich Horror The Evil Clergyman The Festival The Haunter of the Dark The History of the Necronomicon The Horror at Red Hook The Hound The Little Glass Bottle The Lurking Fear The Moon-Bog The Music of Erich Zann The Mysterious Ship The Mystery of the Grave-Yard or “A Dead Man’s Revenge” The Nameless City The Other Gods The Outsider The Picture in the House The Quest of Iranon The Rats in the Walls The Shadow Out of Time The Shadow Over Innsmouth The Shunned House The Silver Key The Statement of Randolph Carter The Strange High House in the Mist The Street The Temple The Terrible Old Man The Thing on the Doorstep The Tomb The Transition of Juan Romero The Tree The Unnamable The Very Old Folk The Whisperer in Darkness The White Ship What the Moon Brings *This edition does not include collaborative works of Lovecraft

On an expedition to Antarctica, Professor William Dyer and his colleagues discover the remains of ancient half-vegetable, half-animal life-forms. The extremely early date in the geological strata is surprising because of the highly-evolved features found in these previously unknown life-forms. Through a series of dark revelations, violent episodes, and misunderstandings, the group learns of Earth’s secret history and legacy. At the Mountains of Madness is a very good introduction to Lovecraft’s mythology of the Old Ones and the glories and horrors that preceded humankind and that still linger in places. It is a good novella on it’s own, and helpful to understanding events and creatures in his other works. This new edition of Lovecraft’s masterpiece includes two essays “Notes On Writing Weird Fiction” and “Supernatural Horror in Literature”.
