Er geht dabei von der Annahme aus, da? die Trennung von Beschreibung und Bewertung in den Umweltwissenschaften unangemessen ist, wenn von diesen Wissenschaften erwartet wird, da? sie aussagekraftige Bewertungsverfahren liefern: Bewertungen sind keine rein naturwissenschaftliche Aufgabe, sondern erfordern einen Bezug zu rechtlichen, okonomischen oder ethischen Kriterien.
