out woman, he didn’t see the note, you did nothing wrong, besides I know you’ll never go back to that store; So you have nothing to worry about. Now, let’s go eat.” She says and grabs her purse.

“Good afternoon, ladies.” Our usual waiter, Mark, says as he walks up to the table.

“Hi, Mark. How are you today?” We both ask him.

“Better, now that my two favorite customers are here. I’ll go get your usual drinks while you look over the menu.”

      “Thanks, Mark,” I tell him.

“Okay, where are we at on the menu?” Brytney asks me.

“Wednesday night we had the Scallops with garlic butter and linguine, looks like today we are at the Shrimp Trio it has Scampi, Grilled and Coconut.”

“Oh, that sounds great!” She exclaims.

Brytney and I have been in the search for the perfect restaurant; we eat twice a week at the same place choosing our meal in order off the menu…until we have a meal, we don’t like. Then, we move onto another restaurant. Sadly, none of the previous places have made it very far into the menu, but so far here at Benita’s, we have gone through half of theirs, loving every meal. “This is our last meal in the seafood section Brytney, and then we move onto steaks.”

“Here you are ladies, two glasses of red wine. Have you decided on what you would like today?” Mark asks as he sets our glasses down.

“Thank you, Mark. Yes, we would both like the Shrimp Trio today.” Brytney tells him.

“Good choice, I’ll go put your order in.”

“Hey Vanessa, remember that cute little dress we saw yesterday?” Brytney asks me.

“’Little’ isn’t the word for it…what about it?”

“I’ve decided I’m going to splurge and go buy it after we are finished with dinner. I think Jack will love it!”

“I’m sure he will, there’s nothing to it.”

Brytney rambles on about the dress she is going to get, while my mind keeps returning to Ian. I only break from my thoughts when Mark returns with our food.

“Okay ladies, here you go. Enjoy your meal, and let me know if there’s anything else I can get for you.”

“This smells wonderful thank you, Mark.”

“And it tastes even better,” I tell Brytney as I put another bite in my mouth.

“Oh Vanessa, this is so good! I think this is my favorite!”

I laugh. “Brytney, you have said that about every meal we’ve had here so far.”

“I know, I can’t help it…it’s all just so good.”

“I agree with you there, maybe this place will be the one.”

An hour and a half later we are stuffed. “Looks like Shayne’s eating takeout, solo tonight.” The thought of cooking makes me ache, I am so full.

“You still have a couple hours until he gets home. Do you want to go with me to buy the dress?”

“No, not today... I think I’m going to head straight home. A bath and a nap are what I could actually use right now.”

“Would you ladies like dessert, tonight?”

“Are you kidding me!? That was fabulous, Mark but I’m so full I can barely finish my glass of wine.” I tell him.

“Same here, we’ll just take the check now Mark.”

“Very well ladies, I’ll take it when you’re ready.”

      “You ready to go, Vanessa?”

“Yes, if I sit here any longer my nap will be at this table.”

“Here you go Mark, thank you for a lovely meal.” Brytney hands him the bill with our money.

“See you ladies on Wednesday,” Mark says to us as we head to the door.

“Have a great evening, Mark,” I yell back.

“Okay, I’m off to the store. Are you sure you don’t want to come?”

“Nope, I’m good. You have fun.” I tell her.

“Suit yourself; I’ll talk to you later.” She says as she’s heading out to her car.

      Chapter Five

After a few hours with Brytney, I’m finally home. I open the screen door, a long box falls out. It’s Sunday, there isn’t any mail. Looking at the box, there isn’t an address on it, only my name is written across the length of it.

Placing the box on the counter, I untie the ribbon and open the box to find a dozen beautiful lilies. Shayne must be sorry about his little rant. I pull out the card and read over the message.

       Vanessa,

In case you missed finding my last note.

       218-555-9210

       Ian xx

HOLY SHIT! How does he know where I live!?

Grabbing the box and card I run to my car heading straight for Brytney’s house. Making sure to call her on the way telling her to get home A.S.A.P.!

“Where’s the fucking fire!? What’s so urgent I had to rush back!?”

Not able to speak, I just point to the box. She opens it slowly. “I rushed home for this!? What has gotten into you!? Shayne has given you flowers before.”

      “No, read the card, Brytney!”

“Fucking hell, girl where did you see him!?”

“I didn’t, they were left on my door at home. Brytney, how the hell does he know where I live!?”

      “Oh shit, Vanessa.”

“Brytney, what is it? I don’t like the look of panic on your face.”

“Remember the mailing list at My Pleasure?”

“Oh, Brytney! Oh god, please tell me you didn’t?”

“I’m so sorry, it was meant to be funny. I didn’t know you had a stalker, please don’t be mad.”

“I don’t know what to be right now. Do I call Ian…tell him to stop? Tell him I have no interest!?”

“Vanessa, I think you should file a report, what if he’s a raging lunatic?”

“No, I can’t do that my brother, Vince is a police officer. No way do I want him involved!”

“So, you’re just going to call him and tell him you’re not interested? What if he doesn’t stop, then what?”

“Let’s just hope he gets the message.” My phone goes off making both Brytney, and I jump.

       “Hey, Shayne.”

“Where ya at baby? I’ve been home almost an hour.”

“Sorry, I’m still with Brytney; I’ll be leaving here in a few minutes.”

“Okay, stop and pick us up Fajita’s, make sure you get extra tortillas.”

“I’ll call and order for you, I had a big lunch today. I’m not hungry.”

       “Okay, I’ll see you soon.”

       “Okay bye.”

“Brytney, I have to go, Shayne is hungry. I’ll have to call you later.”
