nothing. Show me the way I can get rid of smoking and in that moment I will know Nirvana.

The healer was silent, then a soft smile appeared on his face and he answered:

      – Then it was impossible. First you must love something better than tobacco. This will be the first step. You’re asking about the last step and you haven’t even set foot on the first one! Go and try to love something more than a tube in your pocket first.

      Feeling guilty

Most smokers often feel guilty about their bodies. But this feeling itself is also a form of negative emotion, and therefore provokes you to seek solace in tobacco smoke – a closed circle again. The source of these remorse is that you take the false idea of the body as an instrument, as a means of transportation. In your mind, you separate yourself from what is an integral part of your being.

But your I and your desires cannot resist the body. This separation is a purely logical construct. It’s a semantic technique that allows us to speak to each other in some way. The spelling of the mind. In fact, there is no border between you and your body. This boundary is an illusion. Which means there’s no reason for the guilt we just told you about.

This fact, however, does not cancel the discomfort that we often feel when we think about the physical harm caused by smoking. You, your consciousness, your I and your body are one whole. You cannot be the enemy of yourself. Of course, there are destructive forms of behavior that have known consequences, but under normal conditions (i.e. as we are in a normal state) your consciousness and body support each other as much as possible. So I look at the monitor and type line by line and I don’t need to order or demand anything from my fingers. On the contrary, there is deep and comprehensive synchronization between my fingers and me. I am my fingers, and my fingers are me.

The same is true of your fingers with a cigarette. You must not feel guilty about your fingers. Accept it. The desire to smoke a cigarette comprehensively includes both the intention coming from your body and from you… Whatever that «you are» is.

Every second your body represents a mental and organic unity of thoughts, desires and needs. And at the moment when guilt begins to ripen in your mind, this unity does not disappear anywhere. It continues to reveal itself in a factual way. All you do at this moment is start playing with yourself a semantic game in which you say to yourself: «Let’s agree to talk about ourselves in the third person. Without changing anything in reality, and only by proclaiming the metaphysical space in which you act both as an observer with guilt towards the body and as a body.

Think how close this is to a sadistic view of the tormented object of abnormal desire. As a sadist, you feel guilty and at the same time take an attentive interest in how the object of your torment suffers. You feel guilt but continue to smoke.

Isn’t it better to smoke without guilt? Would it be easier for you to quit if you understood the nature of your sadistic habit of regretting a smoked cigarette? Who knows?
