      Introduction

The ability to influence and persuade people is a learned talent, and a very handy one. When we say covert hypnotism, we are not talking about the sort where you dangle a watch in front of somebody’s eyes and hypnotize them into doing you will. That is the sort of thing that we will leave to the villains in books and movies.

When we refer to covert hypnotism, we are referring to the myriad of ways that you can coax, influence, persuade, and get people to listen to you, without question.

At this point, you might be wondering why anybody would write a book that deals with bending people to your will.

That is NOT what this book is about, this book has been written as a guide on how to influence people, how to get them to instantly feel at ease and warm up to you, how to come across as respected and authoritarian, and how to persuade them to your point of view, or to enlist their help.

This book has been compiled with only positive uses of this material in mind and we are strictly against using any of the information in this book for any other way other than what we have listed above.

So what is the target audience for this book? There are many people who use these techniques to their benefit, probably even on you, and you probably never noticed.

Have you ever seen a politician give a speech? Have you seen a hypnotist show? Have you been to see a motivational speaker?

Have you ever wondered how people such as politicians, TV evangelists, leaders, and motivational speaker can have such a compelling presence, even if you agree with them or not, you have to respect them.

We call that charisma, but it is actually a form of covert hypnosis.

Another group who uses covert hypnosis are people who are mentalists, clairvoyants, and psychics. They are not reading your mind, they are reading you, and that is something that anybody can learn.

People give off more non-verbal clues than verbal clues, by tuning in; you can gain insight into their thoughts and feelings and can use that to your advantage.

Speaking of using something to your advantage, how can you use this book to your advantage, but in a positive way?

Simple, if you are somebody who deals with people, either one on one, or in a group setting, where you need to be persuasive, and this book will help you. Successful people command respect and when they talk, people listen.

When they make suggestions, people actually follow them. Are they born with some genetic code that makes them more likable? No, they are simply masters of the techniques that we will be going over in this book.

Salespeople are perhaps the number one group of people who will benefit from this book, along with anybody who will ever need to pitch an idea to somebody, run a meeting, give a speech, or even who might be an entertainer.

Even advertising firms use these covert methods to influence their target audience. They know that certain images and words can influence their audience in subtle ways.

These are not new methods, successful businessmen have been using these methods for years, now you can also learn how to connect with people easy, put them at ease, and to use covert hypnosis to make them open to suggestibility and then you can use persuasive methods to get them to follow your lead.

Cover hypnosis is actually a blend of NLP, mentalism, and hypnosis. When you practice covert hypnosis, you are influencing people on a subconscious level and they will not even realize that it is going on.

NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) deals with how to subtly influence through the use of body language and language.

Hypnosis is actual hypnosis, where you are able to put somebody in a trance and talk directly to their subconscious mind. Mentalism is how you can learn to make people susceptible to suggestion and hypnosis.

Since this book deals with hypnotic techniques, we will use the introduction to go over one of the more common myths about hypnosis. Most people do not have an accurate idea about what hypnosis actually is, and because of that, hypnosis tends to have a bad reputation.

Hypnosis means that you can force people to do things that they do not want to do.

This is the most popular of the hypnosis myths and it is incorrect.

Hypnosis opens people up to a highly suggestive state, and that is all. You cannot control people against their will; it simply does not work that way.

This book deals with covert hypnosis, so we will be blending hypnosis techniques along with NLP and mentalism to allow people to respond to you better and be more open to your suggestions; however, if they are opposed to your suggestions, they will reject them.

Hypnosis is not mind control. Despite what you see during a stage hypnosis show, you will not be able to directly influence somebody to get them to do as you say.

Hypnosis does not turn people into mindless puppets. Stage hypnosis shows and street hypnosis uses a variety of methods to get people induced into a hypnotic trance and then they follow the suggestions of the hypnotist.

Remember, these are all volunteers and if the hypnotist gives them a suggestion that they do NOT want to follow, they will simply exit the trance.

You will be able to open up their minds to a suggestible state, but you will not be able to “force” them to do anything.

What you will be able to do with this book is be a better public speaker, make more engaging arguments and speeches, and be a better businessman or salesperson.

      How Hypnosis Works

Hypnosis goes way beyond the stage hypnosis shows. Yes, it makes for good entertainment but it is also widely used as means of therapy, for self-help, and even simply for meditation.

Hypnotism can be used to help overcome fears, help quit bad habits, overcome addictions, overcome trauma, and can be applied in any number of ways to help people. It is useful for helping with depression and other psychological problems.

Covert hypnotism was really the creation of a hypnotist, Dr. Milton Erickson; Dr. Erickson developed the theory that if you were able to make yourself appear to be familiar to the subject, known as establishing rapport, that you can easier access their subconscious.

This was how covert hypnotism was born and serves as the basis of NLP. He discovered how to hypnotize people covertly using techniques that would open up a person’s subconscious mind, allowing the hypnotist to be able to plant suggestions, without the subject realizing it.
