see and hear a basketball bouncing, and so on.

Another way to look at the philosophy of vibration is to consider the connection between cause and effect and to remember that energy is responsible for actions and thoughts. Prayer is energy. Hope is energy. Energy is vibrant. Where we put our energy is most likely where we experience our results. At the microcosmic level, that can be as simple as intending to have cereal for breakfast, acting on the milk, cereal, and bowl, and experiencing the outcome of eating cereal. On the macrocosmic level, that thought or intention to eat cereal was first placed there by the concept of cereal, which came from the marketing of cereal companies, which came as a result of industry, which occurred in response to resource needs and management in an agricultural society, and so on. Every experience we generate or manifest is part of a larger web of manifestation of energy—the social network of choices impacting everything right up to the rafters. Every moment is unique in that a tremendous constellation of choices, energies, materials, and circumstances leads us to achieve any given result in the moment. The principles of vibration are how we use our intentions and perspectives to support our Will in the Universe. Using these principles is a way for us to focus our hopes on an outcome and pull together our experiences to resonate with our greatest good. It is a way to create order out of chaos—just as the crystal is an ordered matrix of molecules that evolves out of high pressure and heat in the Earth’s crust.

Minerals, gemstones, and crystals all have their own unique vibrations. Maybe the right tools could allow us to “hear” each stone as it hums when struck or stroked and to hear if the sound of that humming might either feel harmonious or discordant. Sound, after all, is a vibration, and it has been mystically imagined that the stones of the Pyramids of Giza were sung into place with vibrating, resonating voices so powerful they could have a visible effect. Crystals and stones are hewn from the Earth’s crust after what may have been be millions of years in formation. Compared to a fruit fly with its twenty-four-hour life cycle, a crystal’s vibration is likely more fixed. This is one of the reasons crystals and gemstones are so useful in relaxation and manifestation work. Because they are often very old and are composed of complex molecular matrices, they will hold their vibration whether they are large chunks of mineral or ground into dust, and we can apply our intentions to these stones for years.

Stones are the most effective when they are in our presence, whether in our gaze, held in our hands, or worn on our bodies as jewelry. Just holding a stone in your hands for a few minutes can be enough to match your energy to the vibration of the stone.

Our vibration can change from moment to moment. Our thoughts, actions, and physical states all play a part, but we are also influenced by our environment and by other people. Being in a stressful workplace with a demanding workload or spending time around a friend who seems to only speak to you when she is complaining about her unhappy marriage are examples of outside influences or vibrations that can have an effect on our energy. These are situations we have to navigate, and, because our energy is not fixed, we must be careful and in tune with ourselves. We might absorb the vibration of stress and discord resonating from a burdensome workplace or from an unhappy friend. The good news is that we can raise our vibration through intention setting and gemstone work, and we can even learn to vibrate in such a way that we change the burden of that workplace or raise up the energy of our friend through actions like grounding, centering, mindfulness, manifestation, and relaxation. The trick to this and all energy work we may do with gemstones, herbs, oils, or anything is simply this: conscious intention and action lead to manifestation. With this simple guideline, we can use gemstones to achieve a stronger sense of wellness. Gemstones are a simple, beautiful, and effective method of supporting your vibe.

There are many ways to work with gemstones and minerals, but the most effective is to carry a stone in your pocket or wear one near your skin set in jewelry. As you go about your day, you will likely be experiencing individuals and situations which could perhaps be difficult or out of alignment with your goals and intentions for your highest self and the highest outcome for those around you. Particularly at the start of our personal, alchemical journey to energetic wellness, it is not practical to think you will navigate your day-to-day life unfazed by others. In an ideal situation, we would be able to identify the cause of the stress and transmute it into a life lesson or some type of benefit to our community, but we do not yet live in an ideal set of circumstances. Wellness and relaxation are a path we walk, seeking mastery of the self and perhaps the opportunity to spread that wellness to the community around us. But even the most diligent of us will experience triggers which cause emotional reactions and have the potential to derail positive momentum.

As we develop our affinity for relaxation, mindfulness, and wellness with gemstones, it will be important to remember the principles of vibration and the Law of Attraction. Simply put, we can harness our energy by directing it, just as, when we meditate and our minds become cluttered with the noise of thoughts, we achieve success simply by redirecting the flow. You cannot control every little thing in your world, but you can gently ask yourself to commit and recommit to your intentions. Set a goal, infuse that goal into the stone you are carrying, and return to that goal when you find yourself adrift. Relax. Breathe. Become aware of the stone again, feel its coolness against your skin. Remember what the stone represents to you. Realign, focus your energy, choose your perspective, and begin.

If you are turning to crystal healing to help relax or experience wellness, you may already have a good footing in the Law of Attraction, and you may have already used crystals to set intentions and help you with the reminding aspect of attraction. Many times, though, our energy work clients come to us missing a step in that process. “I don’t understand it. How am I supposed to feel love before I have love in my life? How can I create that feeling so that I can attract it? If I already had love, I wouldn’t need help attracting it, now, would I?” If you think about it, it’s a valid question. You need love to attract love? How does that work? We have found that the missing element in this process is the Principle of Vibration and how that principle can help us to shift our inner dialogue, energize our goals and desires, and become solution-focused so that we may target our truest aspirations with crystal clarity.

Have you ever experienced déjà vu, the notion that you’ve experienced something before? Or perhaps you’ve had a premonition when your gut was screaming at you to slam on the brakes even though you couldn’t give a clear reason why? Or perhaps you met a person for the first time who just gave you the heebie-jeebies and you couldn’t offer a reason at all other than to say, “That person’s vibe was slimy”? What if these experiences are simply our evolved body’s way of sensing vibration?

Human senses evolved to keep us alive, to survive the stress of a tiger attack all the way to the stress of corporate downsizing. What if your senses achieve this through a complex series of body functions that early humans had no way to observe? Now imagine that you can sense things before you observe them cognitively. Does that sound like magic? Or could it be just a highly evolved sense of intuition?

People have a much less concrete nature than gemstones and crystals. Your vibration, energy, and mood all can potentially change from moment to moment. Your thoughts and actions can be influenced by your environment or by being around other people. Being in a stressful workplace or with people who regularly complain are common examples of outside influences affecting your energy. Because our energy is not fixed, if we are not aware of the way we feel when we interact with that stressful workplace, we will easily succumb to misalignment and the vibration of stress and discord.

At the most basic level, the Law of Attraction suggests that your vibration can be most effective in a frequency which will attract to you the experiences you desire. Luckily for you, we are equipped with the ability to read our own vibration and assess where we stand in relation to our goals. We are emotional creatures. These feelings can act like a barometer to indicate the weather of our internal experiences. When you are feeling joy or cheer, things
