После всего пережитого, бурсак решил, что лучше будет ему вернуться в Киев и провести остаток каникул в общежитии семинарии. Но через несколько дней ректор приказал ему отправиться к богатому сотнику, чтобы прочитать молитвы над его скончавшейся красавицей-дочерью.
