Am Gründonnerstag 1977 wird Generalbundesanwalt Siegfried Buback in Karlsruhe ermordet, mit ihm sein Fahrer Wolfgang Göbel und der Justizbeamte Georg Wurster. 2007 wird seinem Sohn Michael Buback zugetragen, dass für das Attentat die Falschen verurteilt wurden. 2008 fasst Michael Buback seine damaligen Rechercheergebnisse in dem Buch Der zweite Tod meines Vaters zusammen. Diese führen 2010 zum Prozess vor dem Oberlandesgericht Stuttgart, in dem das frühere RAF-Mitglied Verena Becker wegen dreifachen Mordes angeklagt wird. Der General muss weg! ist das akribische, erschütternde Protokoll der Verhandlungen vor dem OLG Stuttgart – aus der Feder von Michael Buback und seiner Ehefrau Elisabeth, beide Nebenkläger des Verfahrens. In diesem bestätigt sich, dass Verena Becker, die letztlich 2012 nur wegen Beihilfe verurteilt wird, geheime Informantin des Verfassungsschutzes gewesen ist. Als «If the kids are united» 1995 erschien, war es das erste deutschsprachige Buch über Punk von seinen Anfängen bis in die 1990er Jahre hinein. Inzwischen liegt das Buch bereits in seiner 9. Auflage vor und gilt längst als Standardwerk zum Thema. Es schlägt einen Bogen vom britischen Punk der 1970er über die Hardcore-Bewegung der 1980er bis zu Grunge in den 1990er Jahren und dem so genannten Ausverkauf von Punk im Videozeitalter. Das Buch ist mehrfach inhaltlich überarbeitet worden, für die 6. Auflage kamen erstmals Abbildungen hinzu, doch sein historischer Charakter als Zeitdokument ist dabei bewahrt worden: Martin Büsser hat das Buch zu einer Zeit geschrieben, als Punk und Hardcore endgültig im Mainstream angekommen waren. Der langjährige Mitarbeiter des «Zap»-Fanzines nimmt damit Abschied von ›seiner‹ Szene und beschreibt, wie es zu der Kommerzialisierung von Punk hatte kommen können. "If the kids are united" ist voller Teilnahme geschrieben, besinnt sich auf die politischen Grundwerte der Szene und hat damit seit Erscheinen für zahlreiche Polarisierungen gesorgt. Ob Zustimmung oder Widerspruch: «If the kids are united» lässt keinen kalt, der einmal in die Szene involviert war.
