Jean Lyonnard (1818-1897) was a Jesuit priest in France, and founder of the Brotherhood of the Dying Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of Sorrows. His book, Perpetual Intercession to the Agonizing Heart of Jesus was a companion book to “Perpetual Supplication to the Compassionate Heart of Mary”. In this writing, Lyonnard examined the suffering of Jesus in life, and how through that suffering he was granted grace in his death in God’s name. The purpose of his message is to remind humanity that Jesus suffered in order to obtain that same grace in death for those on Earth to follow, and as a reminder that faith doesn’t end with study and reading. He encourages his readers to follow the example set by Christ, pray devoutly, and practice the teachings of Christ.
