soul, the truth of the ages. You asked, and because you asked, you shall receive.”

Tears welled up in Ethan’s eyes as he felt the power of the universe flowing through him. The connection he was experiencing was to everything around him. He felt as if the trees and the birds spoke to him. He drew closer to the sea. He could hear the waves softly crashing against the rocks on the beach, their watery reach caressing each stone as the wind ushered them gently towards the shore. The moon’s reflection rippled on the surface of the water, its white shadow waving majestically on the surface of the sea, wrapping itself around the twisting of the gentle waves, which ebbed to and fro. Although the night air was warm, the breeze from the sea was refreshing; it hung in the air, and was like the breath of a kiss touching your lips before the kiss itself.

He sat on a bench on the promenade and stared out to sea. He was aware he was in the presence of something truly special. Every movement of the sea moved within him, massaging his soul. His muscles relaxed to the point where they felt as soft as down. The light of the moon reached out and touched his heart with a gentle caress, which seemed to whisper, “I am with you and within you.” The night air felt as though it was him, as if the universe and he were merged into one. As though he were watching a movie, he stepped outside the moment and observed himself experiencing what was happening.

“What is happening to me,” he asked?

The question prompted a conversation between Ethan and his inner voice, which he came to know as ‘I’, the inspiration within him.

“You asked a question and I am answering you.”

He thought of a quote by the internationally renowned author, Dr Wayne Dyer: “Prayer is when you talk to God; inspiration is when God talks to you.”

“The question you asked me was, ‘surely there is more to life, than this?’ So now you are experiencing that ‘more of life’. You will begin to know more of yourself, know more of your true nature. I will show you the way to fulfilment in your life. Your job in life now is to inspire others to reach their true potential, to become more of their true selves. I will show you how and I will show you the way.”

The same power that he had used to focus his mind on achieving all those goals was beginning to communicate with him. He was having a conversation with his inner voice, the ‘I’.

“Why am I feeling so unfulfilled?” Ethan asked.

“Because you have forgotten who you actually are. You have been lost in the creation of other people’s dreams and realities instead of the creation of your own reality. You have searched for happiness and fulfilment in material possessions and achievements, and you have found it’s not there. You have lost yourself.

“You have so much power within you. Let it out. Express who you are. Express yourself. As you let your light shine, your life will change in ways you never thought possible. Stop living someone else’s life. Stop trying to keep up with the Jones’ and live your own life.”

      “Who are you?”

“I am your inner voice, the inspiration within you, call me ‘I’.”

      “Am I imagining this?”

“You tell me. What do your feelings say to you? I am your voice: all you have to do is listen. From this day forward, your life will never be the same again.”

“What do you mean? Who are you?”

“I am the wind. I am the sea. I am the moon. I am the air. I am the sky. I am night. I am day. I am you and you are me. I am your thoughts, feelings and actions. I am all there is and all there ever will be. I am your guide: trust in me. You live your life logically, analytically, only allowing yourself to have what the mind can imagine.

“I want to give you so much more in your life; an experience of true fulfilment. I want you to leave your current work and do something that will help millions of people to achieve their true potential.”

      “I can’t do that: I can’t walk away from €250,000 a year income.”

“Trust me. Everything will be taken care of for you when you trust and have faith in yourself. Leave your current work now. When you do, I will show you the next step to take… You are to become a messenger of the truth. Why would you worry about money when there are acres of diamonds and more riches and treasure within you than you could imagine? You are all born as unique diamonds. No diamonds are the same. No two people are the same. When you become aware of who you are at a deeper level and begin to live your life from that place, everything changes.”

In that moment, Ethan made the decision to trust his inner voice. On his return to Ireland, he exchanged his job for an entirely new path in life. Gone was the annual financial package worth €250,000, replaced by an expectation that he would receive wondrous new gifts and, most importantly, fulfilment in life.

When Ethan made that decision to trust his inner voice, he could never have imagined the journey it would take him on. He had experienced so many highs, but also many lows. When he trusted his inner self, his ‘I’, completely, he experienced great results. But when he tried to achieve with the old version of himself the ‘Me’ it would end in disaster. Ethan didn’t know what was going on, it was as though part of him was struggling not to be left behind.

It was now December 2012 and Ethan was going through a tough time trusting this inner voice. It seemed as if the inner guide had left him six months earlier. Everything in his life felt wrong now, as though he was no longer connected to his inner voice.

“When you learn to trust and activate your inner voice, there’s no going back,” Ethan told himself. But at times he thought it might have been better if he’d never found out about the deeper part of himself.

“Maybe I should go back to sleep, and forget about this ‘I’ within me. Isn’t it true, that ninety-nine per cent of the population in the world never consider this part of themselves? So why should I? ” Ethan questioned himself.

When he was confused he would lash out at the ‘I’ and blame it for many of the ills in his life.

That Christmas, Ethan decided to take a day out to meditate and chose December 27, the day after St Stephen’s Day. He went to the top of a local mountain to a log cabin to relax and really get in touch with himself. Ethan had many questions but knew that, if he could relax and open himself up to his inner voice, then he would find the answers he needed. Past experience had taught him that if he asked his ‘I’, then he would get an answer, and that answer would always be correct. The answers would come in the following way: a ‘yes’ would be a strong feeling in his body, while a ‘no’ answer would be accompanied by no feeling at all.

But for the last six months, it felt as if his ‘I’ had deserted him, and he didn’t know why? He wasn’t sure why but he knew that he wanted to get it back more than anything. It was as if he’d lost his best friend. Up there, alone in the mountain cabin, he tried to get in touch with his ‘I’ but, however hard he tried, he failed.

Eventually, Ethan fell to the floor with exhaustion. The last six months had been a pure hell in which he had lost himself. He was overweight, fighting with the love of his life, doing badly in business and he had lost a lot of money in a number of deals that had gone wrong. No matter what he tried, everything was a struggle. As he lay on the floor of the cabin, he remembered a vision he’d been given six months previously by his inner self. The vision had been of a distant land, which he was told he must travel to. There he would undertake an adventure which would end with him uncovering a secret treasure. He’d dismissed the vision out of hand but now, lying
