      Например, следующая реплика персонажа представляет собой обобщенную оценку роли врачей в жизни общества, переданную посредством стилистического приема сравнения (simile):

      Mr. Horner [aside]: A quack is as fit for a pimp, as a midwife for a bawd; they are still but in their way, both helpers of nature. – [Aloud.] Well, my dear doctor, hast thou done what I desired? [23, p. 7].

      Иногда внутренняя реплика индивидуума сочетает в себе оценку частного лица и философскую сентенцию:

      Julia [aside]: He seems dejected and unhappy – not sullen; there was some foundation, however, for the tale he told me – O woman! How true should be your judgment, when your resolution is so weak! [23, p. 275].

      Давая оценку отдельным личностям, индивидуум обычно использует номинативные предложения, состоящие либо из одного имени существительного, либо (и чаще) из существительного, модифицированного прилагательным оценочной семантики. Например:

      There was another rapid glance at the house, and supposing himself unseen, the scoundrel had the impudence to embrace her.

      "Judas! Traitor!" I ejaculated. "You are a hypocrite, too, are you? A deliberate deceiver!" [13, p. 104].

      В процессе межличностного общения объектом эмоциональной оценки индивидуума очень часто становится его собеседник. Индивидуум может высказаться в своей внутренней речи о внешности собеседника, его умственных способностях, его поведении в момент речи, его эмоциональном состоянии, манере выражаться и т. д. Например:

      Mrs. Pinchwife: The fine gentleman has given me better things yet.

      Mr. Pinchwife: Has he so? – [Aside] Out of breath and coloured! – I must hold yet [23, p. 42].

      А поскольку оба субъекта включены именно в речевую деятельность, естественно, что оценке подвергается в первую очередь содержание высказывания собеседника. Например:

      Captain Absolute: Oh, come to me – rich only thus – in loveliness! Bring no portion to me but thy love – 'twill be generous in you, Lydia – for well you know, it is the only dower your poor Beverley can repay.

      Lydia [aside]: How persuasive are his words! – how charming will poverty be with him! [23, p. 248].

      Mrs. Malaprop: … Isn't he a handsome man? – tell me that. A genteel man? a pretty figure of a man?

      Lydia [aside]: She little thinks whom she is praising! – [Aloud] So is Beverley, ma'am [Ibid. 256].

      Объектом эмоциональной оценки, заключенной в кратких репликах, часто является сам говорящий. Причем оцениваться может как его физическое и эмоциональное состояние в момент речи, так и его достижения (или неудачи) в осуществлении какой-либо деятельности. Подобное самобичевание или самопоощрение возникает обычно в неречевых ситуациях, будь то в ходе выполнения какой-либо операции на рабочем месте или в домашних условиях. Например:

      She was never backward to admire herself; and she paused, struck with a pleased wonder at the sight. "Ye daft auld wife!" she said, answering a thought that was not; and she blushed with the innocent consciousness of a child [78, p. 271] – оценка внешнего вида.

      Lucy [alone]: Jealousy, rage, love and fear are at once tearing me to pieces. How I am weather-beaten and shattered with distresses! [23, p. 198] – оценка эмоционального состояния.

      At the roots of my hair a tingling sensation began to run down over the surface of my flesh, leaving me goose-fleshed and cold, though I was damp with sweat. Fever? I thought; then uneasily turned to look over my shoulder; and realized suddenly that it was fear [54, p. 465] – оценка физического состояния всего организма.

      As we crawled through the choking dullness of Tooting he was still messing with the electric seat controls, and muttering to himself as he pressed the switches of the map light and the trip computer, "So you've done all right … Yeah, I always knew you'd be OK" [49, p. 189] – оценка своих действий по достижению поставленной цели.

      Предметы могут быть оценены либо по своей функции в жизни (или, чаще – в конкретной деятельности) индивидуума, либо по своей внешней характеристике (размер, цвет, другие физические свойства). Например:

      Then she would take up another pen and begin to write, and say in a low voice, "Oh, it's a talking pen, and will disturb Doady!" And then she would give it up as a bad job, … [22, p. 528].

      Then he saw the statue on the tall column.

      "I will put up there," he cried; "it is a fine position, with plenty of fresh air".
