Today's college students have more knowledge available to them than can be absorbed; mastery of a subject area creates siloes where nearly every course is tailored to comprehending subject matter that may be outdated before they graduate. But learning is more than subject-matter expertise. Our fast-paced environment requires instantaneous reactions to complex questions. Our instant-messaging age champions quick response over reflection or thought–even the president governs by Twitter. Yet the ethical dilemmas are no less complex than the subject matter; cyber security, prison reform, labor rights, abortion, artificial intelligence, or gun laws are common table topics over lunch. Struggling through that complexity is central to understanding its implications for our culture. This book brings together some of the leading ethicists in the country to consider the rightful place of ethics in the university today. The authors make the case that higher education has a special duty to empower students to cultivate their character, ethically assess situations, and prepare them for an increasingly complex world.

Many people react negatively to the word «catechism,» viewing it with suspicion in the belief that it involves rote repetition of obscure points of doctrine. But nothing could be further from the truth. While there is little doubt that memorization has been an overlooked method of teaching, there are good reasons why Christians should retain this ancient practice of instruction. Training Young Hearts for Christ is anything but a dry discussion of minute points of doctrine. Instead, Adam Murrell offers fresh, helpful insights into some of Christianity's most cherished catechisms by presenting gospel truths to a young and modern generation in plain language that makes this complex subject easily understood. In so doing, he reminds all of us of what God has done for his people in this world and in the one to come.

• A timely addition to the conversation regarding liturgical revision
Rick Fabian, well known as one of the founding priests of St. Gregory of Nyssa in San Francisco, writes his “treatise in ten parts” on the significant signs of communal life: the welcoming table, authority (human and biblical), baptism, reconciliation, beauty, the spirit, mystery, marriage, children, and the liturgical/ lectionary cycle. This “revisionist approach to sacramental theology” offers a glimpse into the depth of thought behind the praxis that has shaped one of the Episcopal Church’s most widely known parishes.

Does process theology have something to say about political and social issues and our response to them? In this short book, Bruce Epperly says that it has much to say, and can shape not just the ethics and policies of a better world, but also the way in which we debate and decide those policies. Process theology invites discussion and even guides us toward acceptable and positive compromises. No major political issue of the western world is excluded from this discussion. From immigration to criminal justice, from abortion to reproductive health, from the environment to economic development, process thinking can help guide examination, shaping, and implementation of solutions for a troubled world. This book is suitable for individual reading by anyone who wants to take a fresh look at policy from an open-minded, progressive point of view. It can also be helpful in group studies for those who want to study how to apply prophetic proclamation to daily living.
