Guy Fawkes is a historical novel based on the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, an unsuccessful attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament. The story starts in summer 1605 with the execution of Catholic priests in Manchester. During the execution, Elizabeth Orton madly raves before being chased by an officer overseeing the execution. To avoid capture, she leaps into the River Irwell. She is pulled up by Humphrey Chetham and Guy Fawkes. After she is brought out of the water, she predicts that both men will be executed before she dies. Chetham and Fawkes join the plot through Viviana Radcliffe, daughter of the prominent William Radcliffe, a supporter of the plot. Fawkes travels to John Dee, an alchemist, who is able to call forth the ghost of Orton, which warns him again. He also receives a vision from God that the plot will end in disaster. During this time, the Radcliffe family is exposed as hiding two priests, and having lost their home, the conspirators in the plot travel to London. Viviana marries Fawkes and tries to convince him to give up because of all the signs, but he is determined to follow through.

Old St Paul's is a historical novel that describes the events of the Great Plague of London and the Great Fire of London. The story spreads between April 1665 and September 1666 and details the events of the grocer Stephen Bloundel's life. His daughter Amabel is wooed by Leonard Holt, the grocer's apprentice, while she in turn pursues Maurice Wyvil. This happens while a plague hits London, and St Paul's Cathedral is turned into a place to house the sick. During the plague, London is filled with plague victims while many people go around killing and robbing the sick. Bloundel seals his house to avoid the plague. Holt wanders alone in London and catches the plague, and Amabel goes away to marry Wyvil. However, Wyvil, really John Wilmot, the Earl of Rochester, holds a fake marriage, and when Amabel finds out she grows sick and soon dies. Eventually, Holt recovers from the plague and continues to wander London, meeting Nizza Macascree, a woman who is soon revealed to be Lady Isabella Argentine. As they grow fond, the London fires are started by a group of religious zealots, and London is in danger again.

After a branch does fall from the tree, Piers Rookwood, the owner, dies. It is revealed to Luke Bradley that he was the son, and thus heir, of Piers Rookwood along with the fact that Piers Rookwood murdered Bradley's mother. At the same time, Rookwood's wife, Maud Rookwood, puts forth her own schemes to ensure that her son, Ranulph Rookwood, is able to claim the inheritance for himself. In the heap of schemes, treasons and love triangles shows up Dick Turpin, a highwayman and thief, who is introduced at the manor under the pseudonym Palmer. While there, he makes a bet with one of the guests that he could capture the old Rookwood inheritance for himself.

Windsor Castle is a historical romance with gothic elements that depicts Henry VIII's pursuit of Anne Boleyn. Intertwined with the story are the actions of Herne the Hunter, a legendary ghost that haunts Windsor woods. When Henry VIII decides to replace Catherine of Aragon with Anne Boleyn as his wife, some of the individuals close to the Court oppose Henry and his desires for Boleyn. One of them is Thomas Wyat who wants Boleyn for himself. Other is Cardinal Wolsey, who also opposes the marriage and uses his own daughter, Mabel Lyndwood, to lure Henry away from Boleyn. Eventually, Wolsey turns to outing Wyat's desires for Boleyn to the Court, which almost results in Wyat's execution but is stopped before that point. Meanwhile, Henry VIII tries to deal with Herne the Hunter, a spirit of Windsor Forest and an evil force that seeks to take the souls of people, but falls short. Thomas Wyat and Mable Lyndwood get captured by Herne and the two fall in love in captivity, while Catherine accepts her fate, but warns Boleyn, who also has some dark secrets, that Henry will treat her in the same way.
