Her small-town Oklahoma roots help her give her characters a warmth and depth that readers love.Equally inspired by Nancy Drew and fairy tales, Debra loves to combine romance and suspense in both contemporary and historical novels. One of Debra's favorite aspects of writing is the research. She believes in obtaining firsthand experience whenever possible and has frequented a shooting range, observed brain surgery, and even interviewed a notorious cop killer.In addition to writing, Debra works as an administrative assistant in the oil industry. An avid history buff, she enjoys traveling and has visited places as diverse as Europe and Honduras, where she and her husband served as part of a medical missions team. Often asked why she writes romance, Debra says it's because she believes in heroes and heroines who, after fighting their way through often-staggering obstacles, are rewarded with a happy ending. Her first success came in 1979 when, writing as Lynn Granville, she was accepted by Robert Hale. Success with Mills & Boon came soon after and Devil's Kin was published in 1981.Anne wrote 12 books for Mills & Boon before trying her hand at mainstream fiction. She has now written several books under her own name of Linda Sole and other pseudonyms. However, Mills & Boon remains one of her favorite publishers because of the friendly family atmosphere. She decided to write for them again while continuing her other work–it's a busy life, but fulfilling!Writing has always been a pleasure and is a dream come true for Anne. However, she is happily married and enjoys many other things in the company of her husband. Her main interests apart from writing are watching good films and reading other authors; also walking in the sun and swimming–mostly in Spain because it's warmer.Her main love, apart from her husband and writing, is for animals and birds. She loves feeding the squirrels that come regularly to her garden, as well as many varieties of birds–and even foxes during the recent bad weather. "My husband and sons would be camped in front of the television watching a movie about spiders the size of bowling balls, and I'd be wondering when the handsome scientist would get around to kissing the spunky woman with the bug spray. When it didn't happen, I decided to write my own happy endings–without the giant bugs. "Victoria made that decision in January 1999 after a cross-country move from California, where she's ridden out earthquakes, to Virginia, where she and her family enjoy the history of Washington D. C. «That move was difficult because it brought me face-to-face with regret,» says Victoria. "My husband and I both wish we had taken the kids to Yosemite or made another trip to Baja, but his career changed quickly and there wasn't time. As we made the long drive, I decided I didn't want any more empty dreams in my life. "For Victoria, that meant writing a book. As soon as she finished unpacking over a hundred cardboard boxes, she sat at her computer and wrote a sentence she considers to be the "worst beginning ever. " That manuscript is in a dusty box under the bed, but her second effort turned into Of Men and Angels, and she hasn't looked back. Writing takes up most of Victoria's free time, but she still enjoys an occasional giant-bug movie with her husband and two teenage sons.
