Butch
The word butch is used by gay men and lesbians but has different meanings depending on the user and the subject. In a queer context, butch refers to a person or behaviour that presents as hyper-masculine. A woman who reads as butch reveals her queerness, whereas a man described as butch may be trying to conceal his queerness.
