Unplanned weight loss is common in older adults and is often a sign of a poor outcome.
Weight loss may be closely associated with functional decline, and the additional disability may have important consequences for dependency and place of residence.
Effective management of weight loss requires a targeted approach to identify high‐risk individuals, nutritional evaluation included in a comprehensive gerontological assessment, treatment of remedial causes, and the use of selected nutritional supplements.
