       About the Editors

      

Suthiphand Chirathivat is Professor Emeritus of Economics at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. He is also Executive Director of ASEAN Studies Center and Chairman of Chula Global Network. He was Dean of Faculty of Economics, Chairman of the Ph.D. Program in Economics, and Chairman of Economics Research Center and Center for International Economics at Chulalongkorn University. His academic interests involve issues related to international trade, investment, finance, regional integration and development, and emerging issues in Asia in relation to the global economy and society. Recent publications include China’s Rise in Mainland ASEAN: New Dynamics and Changing Landscape (co-ed) (2019), Celebrating the Third Decade and Beyond: New Challenges to ASEAN-India Economic Partnership (co-ed) (2017), and Global Economic Uncertainties and Southeast Asian Economies (co-ed) (2016).

      

Buddhagarn Rutchatorn is Associate Professor of Economics at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. He is also Executive Deputy Director of ASEAN Studies Center and Director of the Master of Arts program in Korean Studies, which is a co-program of Chulalongkorn University and Seoul National University. He was Associate Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Deputy President at Chulalongkorn University. His academic interests include issues related to international finance, business, investment, managerial economics, and economic issues in the Mekong Region. He received a Ph.D. degree from Keio University, Tokyo.

      

Wasutadon Nakawiroj received his Ph.D. from the Faculty of Economics, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. He worked as a researcher for the ASEAN Studies Center of Chulalongkorn University, and on behalf of the Faculty of Economics. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, international trade, regional geopolitics, globalization and modernization, development economics and social well-being, behavioral economics, sociology, and Asian history.

       About the Contributors

      Yang Baoyun is Professor of the School of International Studies, Peking University. He is, since 2013, Professor at Pridi Banomyong International College, Thammasat University, Thailand. He received his Ph.D. degree from University of Paris, France. His doctoral dissertation, titled Contribution to the History of Nguyen’s Principality in Southern Vietnam (1600–1775) [in French], published in 1992 in Geneva, was rewarded in 1994 the “Stanislas Julien Prize” of France. He has long been engaged in South-East Asia Area Studies, Asia–Europe Relations Studies, and Overseas Chinese Studies. He has published a great number of academic books and papers in Chinese, French, and English. Some of his papers have been translated into Japanese and Vietnamese as well.

      Somdeth Bodhisane obtained his bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. He then pursued his research interest by becoming a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the College of Public Health Science, Chulalongkorn University (from 2015–2019), where he has published several research papers with international publishers in health economics and public health. He recently joined the Economic Research Institute for Industry and Trade (ERIIT), a think tank (policy institute), and training center for Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC) in early 2017. As a researcher, his main duty at ERIIT includes writing project proposals, drafting questionnaires, performing quantitative data analysis, and acting as principal investigator of several research projects. Apart from conducting research, he occasionally lectures at College of Commerce (under ERIIT) and College of Public Health Science, Chulalongkorn University, in health economics, research methodology, and topics relevant to trade.

      Supang Chantavanich (Thailand) is Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. She is also Advisor of the Asian Research Center for Migration (ARCM) within the Institute of Asian Studies at Chulalongkorn University. After she graduated with a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Grenoble, France, she started her teaching and research area on Southeast Asian societies and cultures, sociological theories, qualitative research, development studies, Chinese diaspora, labour migration, and forced displacement including the situations of political refugees, asylum seekers, and environmental refugees, as well as human trafficking and statelessness.

      She has been working intensively on the Thai–Myanmar borders since 1990s. In 2011, she cooperated with UNDP to lead the research project “Sustainable Displaced Person Situation on the Thai–Myanmar Border” with EU fund coverage for six studies of situational and policy analyses of
