The Voyages of Marco Polo is a 13th-century travelogue written down by Rustichello da Pisa from stories told by Italian explorer Marco Polo, describing Polo's travels through Asia between 1271 and 1295, and his experiences at the court of Kublai Khan. The Travels is divided into four books. Book One describes the lands of the Middle East and Central Asia that Marco encountered on his way to China. Book Two describes China and the court of Kublai Khan. Book Three describes some of the coastal regions of the East: Japan, India, Sri Lanka, South-East Asia, and the east coast of Africa. Book Four describes some of the then-recent wars among the Mongols and some of the regions of the far north, like Russia. Polo's writings included descriptions of cannibals and spice-growers.

Jerusalem Explored is a book by Italian architect and engineer Ermete Pierotti who worked for several years in Jerusalem as a consultant for the Franciscans. He was involved in archeological explorations and in this book he put down the knowledge he had gained during his work. The book provides a description of the ancient and modern city of Jerusalem, containing many photographs, drawings and maps, illustrating the manners of the ancient Hebrews. This account of the Gallipoli Campaign was written from the perspective of a British Army officer. The Gallipoli Campaign was a military campaign in the First World War that took place on the Gallipoli peninsula February 1915 to January 1916. The Entente powers, Britain, France and Russia, sought to weaken the Ottoman Empire, one of the Central Powers, by taking control of the straits that provided a supply route to the Russian Empire. The Allies' attack on Ottoman forts at the entrance of the Dardanelles in February 1915 failed and was followed by an amphibious landing on the Gallipoli peninsula in April 1915 to capture the Ottoman capital of Constantinople. In January 1916, after eight months' fighting, with approximately 250,000 casualties on each side, the land campaign was abandoned and the invasion force withdrawn. It was a costly defeat for the Entente powers and for the sponsors, especially First Lord of the Admiralty (1911-1915), Winston Churchill. The campaign was considered a great Ottoman victory. Child Royal is a historical novel by D. K. Broster. She was an influential English novelist and short-story writer. Her fiction consists mainly of historical romances set in the 18th or early 19th centuries. During the First World War she served as a Red Cross nurse with a voluntary Franco-American hospital, but she returned to England with a knee infection in 1916. After the war, she and a friend, Gertrude Schlich, moved near to Battle, East Sussex, where Broster worked full-time as a writer. She was in the first batch of women to receive her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in 1920 at Oxford.
