Así mismo, en una dimensión política, surgen temas como la burocratización de los estados, centralización, la nacionalización de clases medias, el liberalismo, los fascismos y los exilios políticos. A todo ello se añade la universidad como espacio social, las relaciones entre universidades y la historia urbana, las miradas a la universidad desde fuera, la simbología de estas instituciones e incluso las biografías integradas en el contexto social, que muestran, también en este campo, el retorno al sujeto como tema historiográfico.
