Auf Basis einer Text-Kontext-Analyse des Otnits, einem heldenepischen Werk aus dem Kontext der Dietrichepik, entwirft Katja Winter ein literaturdidaktisches Modell für den Umgang mit mittelalterlichen Texten in der Schule. Im Mittelpunkt steht ein kulturpoetischer Zugang zum Text, durch den SchülerInnen die Materialität und Semantizität von Text und Kultur erkennen lernen. Dies wiederum kann sie zu Medien-, Deutungs- und Gedächtnisreflexionen anregen, womit Aspekte literarischen und kulturellen Lernens als Zieldimensionen beschrieben werden. Damit wird nicht nur der Otnit, der bisher kaum in den didaktischen Blick geraten ist, als Unterrichtsgegenstand legitimiert, sondern die Mittelalter-Didaktik insgesamt im Kontext einer kulturwissenschaftlichen Literaturdidaktik profiliert.
