Jahrhundert vor. Der Autor spannt den Bogen von der Zeit der Restauration und des Vormärz über die Grenzlogenzeit, den Ersten Weltkrieg, die Zwischenkriegszeit, den Zweiten Weltkrieg, das Exil bis zum Neubeginn nach 1945 und schließt mit einem Ausblick auf die Ziele, Werte und Zukunftsaufgaben der Freimaurerei.

"Die zweiundzwanzig Bücher über den Gottesstaat" (lateinisch: De civitate Dei), oft auch «Vom Gottesstaat» genannt, ist ein Buch der christlichen Philosophie, geschrieben in Latein von Augustinus von Hippo im frühen 5. Jahrhundert. Das Buch war eine Antwort auf die Behauptung, das Christentum habe den Niedergang Roms herbeigeführt, und gilt neben den Bekenntnissen und dem Enchiridion als eines der wichtigsten Werke des Augustinus. Als Werk eines der einflussreichsten Kirchenväter ist «Vom Gottesstaat» ein Eckpfeiler des westlichen Denkens, in dem viele tiefe Fragen der Theologie, wie das Leiden der Gerechten, die Existenz des Bösen, der Konflikt zwischen freiem Willen und göttlicher Allwissenheit und die Lehre von der Erbsünde, dargelegt werden. Dies ist Band eins von zwei und enthält die Bücher eins bis dreizehn.

La inquietud que no deja de manifestarse bajo diversas formas en este libro es por el poder ambivalente de las imágenes, un intento persistente por desplazar la pregunta sobre qué son las imágenes hacia sus maneras de hacer, su performatividad. Tradicionalmente, la imagen ha sido declarada no apta para criticar la realidad, al tiempo que hoy se afirma que estamos inmersos en una cultura visual que exige orientarse en ella. Si bien la mayoría de las imágenes que circulan son para consumir objetos y no para construir miradas, ello no implica que no sigan siendo artefactos de potencia especulativa, poética y política. Este texto es una invitación a mantener una actitud crítica que permita la emergencia de nuevos tipos de conflictos y nuevas formas de ver. Desde una suerte de contraintuición afirma que el problema no es tanto el exceso de imágenes sino su escasez; esas realidades que no tienen imágenes, que carecen de capacidad para ser imaginadas. Una interpelación a componer otras formas de poder, relacionar lo que no tiene relación, ejerciendo en común la potencia que se comparte. Hay que hacer relatos, hay que hacer imágenes y hay que creer en esos relatos, hacer como si fuesen verdaderos. Para la autora, en estas formas de interrupción frágil es donde puede ocurrir la sublevación de las formas.
