Giacomo Casanova, geboren am 2. April 1725 in Venedig, verstorben am 4.6.1798. Seine umfangreichen Memoiren sind von hohem kulturhistorischem Wert, erregten jedoch in erster Linie wegen der beschriebenen frivolen erotischen Abenteuer Aufsehen. Er sagte von sich: Amor ist der größte Spitzbube unter den Göttern; der Widerspruch scheint sein Element zu sein. Mein sanguinisches Temperament machte mich sehr empfänglich für die Lockungen der Sinnlichkeit; ich war stets fröhlich und immer geneigt, von einem Genuss zu einem neuen überzugehen; dabei war ich zugleich sehr erfinderisch im Ersinnen neuer Genüsse.
